RSS Feeds-
The Latest Tool for Marketing Your Website

RSS or Really Simple Syndication is the latest and greatest way to keep current with your favorite websites or communicate with your website visitors. RSS uses a technology that scans the content of websites for updates and sends out those updates to subscribers through a feed. When an update is sent out, you'll get a headline with some text following it and will need to click on the link to read the rest of the article.

But in order to receive your RSS feeds, you'll need to have a feed reader. There are many available on the Internet (and many are free). We've listed a few of the popular ones here for your convenience.

Oh, by the way, these feeds are not limited to just your computer. You can also receive them on your PDAs and cell phones.

So how do you get one of these RSS feeds?
When you find a site that you want to a feed from, you'll most likely see an orange "RSS" () or "XML" () icon or similar button on its homepage (that is, if uses the technology). There will be buttons sprinkled throughout the site, as well, but your best bet will be to look on the homepage. All you need to do is click on the button, and it will immediately add the feed to your reader. In some cases, however, you may have to copy and paste the URL of the feed into your feed reader. But whichever method you use, as soon as the feed is added, you'll start getting the updates from the site. And if you ever decide to unsubscribe, all you do is simply delete the feed from your feed reader.

And why do you want still another bit or byte of information?
In the past the typical way to receive updates from websites has been through newsletters delivered through email. The advantages that RSS feeds have over email newsletters is that you get the news as soon as it's updated, not when the newsletter is published; the updates will never be held up by a spam filter; plus, you don't have to wade through the many ads that make up a typical newsletter these days.

RSS feeds are fast becoming the way to deliver news to interested Internet subscribers. Gone are the days of endless surfing through poorly organized sites or struggling through advertisement-crammed newsletters. We just don't have the time for that anymore. RSS feeds are the new, efficient way of delivering news to subscribers, and they look to become even more popular in the future.

Women's Work now has its own RSS feed! If you want to stay up-to-date with the latest news, make sure you subscribe!
